La and Lily's Bunnyliscious Easter Hunt

We went to one of our favorite gardens for our Easter-egg hunt again this year. It's to the point where La consider it "the Easter park" because we've gone there for the last few years. The bunny may have also brought some coloring books, crayons and wrist bangles along with the home-made chocolates he'd hidden in the eggs.

Of course you can't go on an Easter egg hunt without the proper equipment!

One requires a basket and most importantly...

BUNNY EARS! Very important for sussing out bunny-trails!


But naturally 5 year olds and 2 year olds are good at knocking the ears off a bit too often in their hunt, so they were stowed for play at home shortly after.




And since someone is growing and hasn't had a decent picture in awhile, I may have cheated in snapping a few non-egg-hunt pics as well...

The best kind of easter bunnies...

We fully support the "Make Mine Chocolate" campaign, to avoid people impulse purchasing baby rabbits during the easter period as gifts. Bunnies are sensitive, intelligent, highly social animals who can live over 10 years of age and require as much care and veterinary attention (s/n, microchipping, annual vaxs and check ups) as cats or dogs preferably at a rabbit specialist vet. They are not okay to be left in small hutches all their lives with nothing but pellets for food and occasional pats and are not ideal 'starter' pets for very young children as their are sometimes promoted. Thousands of buns are bred every year to turn a dollar at easter and most of them don't make it to their first birthday; the victims of neglect, misunderstanding, disposable attitudes, poor diet, injury or dumping in the 'wild' or at high kill pounds and shelters.

That said, one of the cutest things around at easter-time are bunnies...

Wonders never cease... he held still!

After opening his gift - a bunny dinnerware set with a chocolate egg - bright, shiney and green! Despite how big it looks it's hollow, so it's not actually much chocolate but still plenty to have him pinging off the walls!

Lily let me get a picture of her with her eyes open despite the lighting!

And just a lovely view of a sunny day... looking through some of the rhododendrons toward the paddock. Nic and Laurent have been working on building a large 3 bay compost system from recycled roofing to handle the amounts our property generates. La is loving being the helpful helper.

You'll all just have to indulge me a bit, newborns are just so lovely. Besides, it's remarkably novel to have the little person I'm trying to get a photograph of not darting about at the speed of light for a change!






Unfortunately I've not been able to get a picture of her eyes open so far, although she's quite an alert little critter (especially at, oh, about 4 am) because we're not keen on keeping them open when the light is decent to get a snapshot, so you'll just have to trust me... she does wake up! I think mostly everyone has heard by now but in case there's a few who haven't, we also settled on using the name we'd originally liked - so she is officially Lily Ariane.

Meanwhile despite us having an overall much quieter Easter than usual, La still got to have a bit of fun activity as while mum and our midwife had another little visit he got to see the local display, do a colouring page to hang in the local shops, got a chocolate egg and got his face painted which was deemed beyond way too cool for words! Not that it stopped him from telling me using every very excited word of thrill he knows of course, bless him!

The request was for a bunny, given that's his nickname but he decided it looked more like a cat and spent the remainder of the afternoon burning off the chocolate high running around on all fours meowing, purring and swatting Jasper's toys while insisting he was "Jasp-berger"!

He is so far settling into the whole big brother role pretty easily. Granted I give it a few more weeks before he realizes she's permanent and we run into adjustment but at the moment he thinks she's pretty neat and is rather fascinated between the ideas of it being the same baby inside mum that is now on the outside. Mind you she is not allowed to fuss a single second before I'm informed by Sir Bossy Boots on the proper care of a baby - "Mummy, bubby needs bibi!" You can cut and paste for a cuddle, nappy check, burping or any other care or interaction he reckons she needs as well. LOL I'm also frequently given a running commentary on exactly how that care should be going. It's the left bibi, not the right one she had last (because the difference isn't obvious enough...) and she needs to open her mouth real wide (complete with demonstrations) etc. which is hilarious and adorable at the same time.

Bunny Lala's Easter

On easter the Bubbly Bunny Lala and his mum and dad went to the gardens. Bunny Lala's mum and dad told him they were going to hunt for Easter Eggs. "What's that," wondered Bunny Lala because he had only ever seen one easter before and it was when he was very tiny and only concerned with guzzling as much milk as possible and sleeping.

When they got to the garden, dad went ahead and mum walked Bunny Lala around. "Watch closely Bunny Lala, let's see if we can find some Easter Eggs! They could be hidden anywhere!" Bunny Lala ran ahead, just enjoying the grass and trees until he spotted something. "There's one! An Easter Egg!"

The first egg was easy to find! Sitting right there on a rock in the sunshine, all coloured like a rainbow! They were very different than the eggs Bunny Lala had eatten for breakfast and even very different than the ones he'd splattered from the carton in his mums fridge one day.

After putting the first Easter Egg into the basket, he looked around for others. He couldn't see any others, so he sat and thought where to go next. Where could those eggs be hidden???

After a moment he took off... hot on the trail of the eggs! A group of Japanese tourists came by and in unison whipped out their cameras, aimed and snapped photos squealing at the cute little easter bunny zipping around the garden. Everywhere he went, people smiled and giggled at him. The Bubbly Bunny Lala being a bit of a ham, played to his crowed, chattering and offering everyone easter eggs.

Before long though, he spotted another one! This one was perched high on top of a rock and it took a bit of climbing to get it!

But as with all eggs, into the basket it goes!

The next one was even easier!

With all these eggs, the basket was getting heavy. Suddenly Bunny Lala noticed there were no more eggs... when he looked, at the end of the trail after he'd picked up the very last egg was a BASKET! Not just any basket though, this one had a stuffed bunny and two books... one about a little girl and her dog and one about bunnies!

Bunny Lala loved the books and read them on the spot, chattering away about the fun he'd had finding all the Easter Eggs and then finding his basket!

(In less charming news, Bunny Lala's mum then went out to dinner with Bunny Lala's dad and Cousin Nina. Bunny Lala's dad spotted "an old family friend" and stopped to chat. Afterwards, Bunny Lala's mum found out that the nice gentleman and his wife were actually a French Count and Duchess. Bunny Lala's mum was unamused not to have been told this earlier because she was very tired, wearing no make-up, was quizzed about a state she didn't live in (which she didn't know the answer to!) and had a drip of ice-cream Bunny Lala had splattered on her shirt smeared. *sigh* It was perhaps not quite the impression she would have wished to have made!
